Count words in your text directly in your browser.
AvyTool treats runs of non-whitespace characters as words. Punctuation stays attached to the surrounding text for counting purposes.
Word counting depends on how text is separated and how punctuation is treated. AvyTool provides a practical count for ordinary writing rather than claiming to reproduce every publishing platform’s exact counting rules.
A short sentence such as “Tools should be simple to use.” contains six space-separated words. Hyphenated terms, contractions, URLs, and copied formatting can make different software produce different counts.
Academic publishers, content-management systems, and word processors may use different rules for symbols, hyphens, numbers, or line breaks. If a submission has a stated word-count definition, follow that definition rather than assuming every counter uses the same method.
Paste the draft into the counter, check the total, then review the text for accidental duplicated sections or formatting artifacts. The result is calculated in your browser, so the tool is convenient for quick checks of drafts.
