Sort lines alphabetically in ascending or descending order.
Lines are sorted using the browser's standard string comparison. The tool does not change the text inside each line.
Text sorting arranges lines into an order so repeated, unordered, or manually collected entries are easier to inspect. The exact order depends on the comparison rules used by the browser and the characters in each line.
A list such as “Banana, Apple, Cherry” can be sorted into alphabetical order. Sorting is useful before comparing two lists, reviewing categories, or looking for entries that are out of sequence.
An alphabetically sorted list can still contain spelling mistakes, duplicate records, or inconsistent capitalization. Sorting changes order; it does not determine whether the underlying data is correct.
Keep a copy of the original list, sort the working copy, then review unusual entries. For larger or important datasets, use a spreadsheet or database when you need filtering, validation, and repeatable data-cleaning rules.
